DISNEY / POLYNESIAN MYTHOLOGY If the stories are to be believed-- and if you ask him yourself, he'll guarantee you that they are-- then the people of Polynesia and the Pacific Islands have the demigod Maui to thank for all of the great wonders of their lives. Perhaps he really did pull the Hawaiiian islands up from the ocean floor. Or maybe he really did slow down the sun in order to give humanity longer days for work and enjoyment. And perhaps he really is to thank for wind, and coconuts, and fire, and any number of other advantages that humanity enjoys. What is for sure is that Maui is a boisterous, boastful, fun-loving, powerful being who carries and magical fish hook which serves as both weapon and focus for his powerf, chief among which is the ability to change his shape at will to nearly any form he can imagine. |
This version of Maui is primarily based on his depiction in Moana, and his default canon point follows the events of that film, but this is flexible. I can play in action or prose, past or present tense, as needed. I'm not the fastest tagger, but will happily backtag a thread forever, so don't worry when RL gets in the way.
